Westside Sports

Challenge

The Westside Sports project was originally competitively bid but came in over budget, placing the entire project at risk. The challenge was to develop a value-engineered (VE) solution that would reduce cost without compromising square footage or the architectural vision, which included architecturally exposed structural steel (AESS) PEMB press boxes.

Solution

Following the bid, our team worked closely with the general contractor and design team in a post-bid VE process. Through creative material substitutions, optimized connection detailing, and fabrication efficiencies, we successfully brought the project into budget while fully maintaining the desired function and aesthetics.

Result

The result is a cost-efficient, high-performing athletic facility that retains its original design intent. The AESS PEMB press boxes serve as a visual highlight, combining durability and design to elevate the user experience while staying within financial constraints.
